Pleural Mesothelioma occurs when Cancer hits the lining of the lungs,
also known as the 'Pleura.' The Pleura is a Sac which houses the
lungs, and consists of a thin membrane called the 'mesothelium.'

Kills 28 Year Old Woman - Precise Cause of Death Unknown

Leigh
Carlisle (photo left) developed mesothelioma lung cancer at the
tender age of 26 years and has since then battled this disease courageously.
However, she had no clue how she contracted this disease and why
it would come at such a young stage in her life. She is perceived
as the United Kingdom's youngest mesothelioma cancer victim. Since
mesothelioma lung cancer develops 20-30 years after initial asbestos
exposure, this may mean Ms. Carlisle was exposed to asbestos at
a very young age. But where and how? Unfortunately, she never got
to know the answer as she passed away on Wednesday August 27th,
2010 at a hospital in North Manchester, UK. Industrial lawyers have
started investigating the possibility that Ms. Carlisle could have
been exposed to asbestos whilst at school as asbestos fibers in
school buildings is very common.
Solicitor Geraldine Coombes of Irwin Mitchell, a lawfirm helping
people who have been affected with industrial diseases quotes, "We
had been working with Leigh and her family to establish how she
was exposed to asbestos. We know that she must have been exposed
to it as a child. We know that asbestos in schools in a real problem."
Leigh's boyfriend, Michael Price quotes, "Leigh had so much
courage and strength - she was an inspiration to me and to others.
Instead of flowers at her funeral, he said she wanted donations
to the Oldham Cancer Support centre in Failsworth. Leigh would have
liked to think that she helped the cancer centre to support other
people."
Leigh died from pleural mesothelioma after suffering abdominal
pains. Pleural mesothelioma occurs when cancer hits the lining of

to asbestos whilst at school and who are now suffering from asbestos-related
diseases.
Today, it is estimated that over 13000 schools across the UK contain
asbestos; which was widely used in constructing school buildings
after the 1950s. There is speculation that even though the Department
of Education and Science was concerned about the harmful effects
of asbestos use in schoolbuildings, pressure from asbestos manufacturers
& industry players continued its use. Mr. Coombes quotes, "Leigh
will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her. She was always
friendly and kind to others, no matter how bad things were with
her health. She was an exceptional young woman, spending time raising
money for charity and raising awareness among younger people about
